Lay Down Sally
[Verse 1]

A
There is nothing that is wrong
                                 D
in wanting you to stay here with me.
  A
I know you've got somewhere to go
                                        D
but won't you make yourself at home and stay with me?
              E
And don't you ever leave.

[Chorus 1]

       A D
Lay down, Sally, and rest you in my arms.
       E A
Don't you think you want someone to talk to?
       A D
Lay down, Sally, no need to leave so soon.
       E A
I've been trying all night long just to talk to you.

[Verse 2]
(same as verse 1)

The sun ain't nearly on the rise
and we still got the moon and stars above.
Underneath the velvet skies
love is all that matters, won't you stay with me?
And don't you ever leave.

[Chorus 2]
(same as chorus 1)

I long to see the morning light
colouring your face so dre amily.
So don't you go and say goodbye,
you can lay your worries down and stay with me.
And don't you ever leave.

Basic pattern:
It is possible to play it with the left thumb and middle finger and a
full A chord on the higher strings. They may be strummed occasionally.
The best way to play it is using a plectron and middle finger with the
right hand. Transpose the first two bars to D also. The bar 3 and 4
contain the catch phrase that is only played over A.

Guitar solo over A major (nothing more). It is not complete up to the very

I take no liability for the health of your left hand playing bass
and chords together. It works for me.

About the artist behind Lay Down Sally:

Eric Patrick Clapton, CBE (born 30 March 1945), is a English blues-rock guitarist, singer, songwriter and composer. He is one of the most successful musicians of the 20th and 21st centuries,[1] garnering an unprecedented three inductions into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (The Yardbirds, Cream, and solo). Often viewed by critics and fans alike as one of the greatest guitarists of all time[2], Clapton was ranked fourth in Rolling Stone Magazine's list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time"[3] and #53 on their list of the Immortals: 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.[4]

Although Clapton's musical style has varied throughout his career, it has always remained rooted in the blues. Clapton is credited as an innovator in several phases of his career, which have included blues-rock (with John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers and The Yardbirds) and psychedelic rock (with Cream). Clapton has also achieved great chart success in genres ranging from Delta blues (Me and Mr. Johnson) to pop ("Change the World") and reggae (Bob Marley's "I Shot the Sheriff"). Clapton also achieved fame with Derek and the Dominos through the hit song "Layla".
